Community Service

For volunteers who are needing to complete service hours for class, scholarship, or work-related requirements with no long-term commitment or application required. We do welcome volunteers under the age of 18, but they must be accompanied by a parent or adult while volunteering. All volunteers must be on the schedule to volunteer.

FOOD SERVICE
We serve over 265,000 nutritious meals each year and thrive on volunteers to make this happen! Please read the meal service information below and then email Cathy Rohrer at CathyRohrer@wmm.org with the following information:

 

  • Your name
  • Phone number
  • What type of community service (i.e. school, work, other) and what school or business/organization
  • How many hours needed
  • Meal(s) you are able to serve: Lunch, Dinner, or both
  • What day(s) you are able to serve
  • What location you would like to serve
  • How many people (including yourself) will be coming to serve

The options for serving meals are as follows:
Men's Residential Center - located at 245 North Delaware Street, 46204

 

  • Lunch (11:00 AM-12:15 PM) Monday-Saturday
  • Dinner (4:30 PM-5:30 PM) Monday-Saturday

We schedule up to 5 volunteers to serve lunch and dinner. We have an additional shift every Saturday available from 8:30 AM-10:30 AM for volunteers to assist with preparations for meals to be served on the weekends. We will be happy to let you know the next available weekend(s) upon request.

 

The Men's Residential Center houses men in our residential and long-term addiction recovery programs.

Center for Women and Children - located at 3208 East Michigan Street, 46201

  • Lunch (10:30 AM-12:30 PM) Monday-Saturday
  • Dinner (4:00 PM-6:00 PM) Monday-Sunday

We schedule up to 5 volunteers to serve lunch and dinner. Due to the nature of the Center, male volunteers must be accompanied by females when volunteering.

 

The Center for Women & Children houses women, moms and kids in our homeless shelter as well as those in our residential and long-term addiction recovery programs.

Shelter for Men - located at 520 East Market Street, 46204

  • Lunch (11:30 AM-12:30 PM) Monday-Saturday
  • Dinner (4:30 PM-6:00 PM) Monday-Saturday

We schedule up to, and no more than, 12 volunteers to serve lunch and dinner. The weekend schedule normally stays booked a few weeks out, but we are happy to let you know about the first available openings.

 

The Shelter for Men is located downtown and houses the men temporarily in our emergency homeless shelter.


HOUSEKEEPING
We hope that all who seek our services are welcomed into a warm, clean and welcoming locations - volunteers are essential into making this happen! Volunteers serve alongside our housekeeping staff to clean, maintain, and beautify our Centers. Tasks may range from wiping down tables and chairs, mopping, cleaning windows, etc. If interested, please email Bethany Alvis at volunteer@wmm.org with the following information:

Available volunteer hours range between 7:00AM-1:00PM, Monday through Saturday. We ask that no less than 2 hours are scheduled at a time. Individual men only, unless female volunteers are accompanied by a male.

Available volunteer hours range between 9:00AM-4:00PM, Monday through Friday. We ask that no less than 2 hours are scheduled at a time. Individual women only, unless male volunteers are accompanied by a female.

THRIFT STORE & DONATION CENTER (Due to training, must be able to commit to 12 or more hours)
By selling new and gently used clothing and household items to the community, the Thrift Store helps fund vital ministry programs and also offers training and work opportunities for program participants. Volunteers are needed throughout the week to sort, organize, and clean donations at the Store and Donation Center. Training is provided by Wheeler staff and retail experience is great, but not required. If interested, please contact Bethany Alvis at volunteer@wmm.org with the following information:
