Center for Women and Children Programs

Emergency Shelter Care

Our Emergency Shelter Care Program for women and women with children is a 30-day residential program designed to assist women with basic temporal needs while assessing the factors that led them to homelessness. By working with a case manager, her social needs are assessed in the areas of addiction, mental health, medical and educational issues. Ladies are offered life-skill and spiritual life classes, recreation and the opportunity to hear about our other long term programs that can help them with recovery, securing safe housing and employment or mental health care.

Fresh Start / Working Guest Program

Our Fresh Start/Working Guest Program is a 6-month residential program designed to assist women to become independent through job training or job procurement. Clients receive individualized case management, educational training in our computer lab, work therapy, career development and life-skill classes, spiritual training and counseling. The goal is to have the clients move to safe affordable housing within 6 months, find employment, mend broken relationships, demonstrate life change and be involved in a follow up program for up to one year.

Family Development Program

Our Family Development Program for mothers and their children is offered in three phases. This is a residential program lasting 6 to 9 months. It is designed to provide stabilization, spiritual development and skill development. Recovery classes are held for those moms with a limited addiction history. Classes in parenting, life-skills and career development are included. An individualized educational program is supplied for the mothers where they can prepare to earn their GED or improve basic skills. Individual case management and counseling are an important part of this program. Educational field trips and outings are offered, as well as daily spiritual life classes. Assistance is given with regard to housing and employment procurement.
As a part of the Family Development Program, we offer a Children’s Center with a strong educational emphasis. An entire floor of our Center is dedicated to this program. When mothers are in classes, the children attend age-appropriate educational programs, which include preschool education preparation, social behavior lessons, physical exercise and motor skill development, craft time and introduction to Biblical themes through fun story times. Positive mother and child interaction is taught and encouraged.

Connect to Care Program (C2C)

Our C2C program is designed to address the needs of those ladies that come seeking shelter and have the additional burden of mental illness. The C2C program allows those women to connect with local mental health providers and their services while having the stability of housing at the Center. The women are able to undergo counseling, medical care and medication treatment with the mental health provider and the team they provide as support. Many of the mental health providers also offer housing opportunities and the extended stay at the Center is essential for that process to come to completion. Additionally, the staff at the Center serves as support through the day to day challenges that are often intensified with mental illness. The ladies in the C2C program work a scheduled day attending classes such as Anger Management, Life Skills, Addiction/Recovery, Communication Skills, Financial Management and Healthy Relationships, as well as weekly bible studies. The afternoons consist of time in the Education Center improving academic and or employment skills, working in our Job Center, attending educational/employment training, job seeking or working assignments around the building. The stay for this program is typically 6-9 months although there is flexibility for an extended stay if the woman continues to be in compliance with the direction of her mental health provider and the Center and is working to make the final steps in securing safe and affordable housing.

Higher Ground Addiction Recovery Program

Our Higher Ground program is a long-term residential treatment program for women dealing with alcoholism and/or chemical addiction. Highly structured classes are held in three phases. The first phase is a minimum of nine weeks in length and is held at the Center with the goal of addressing immediate needs of withdrawal or other health problems, dealing with any pending legal issues and stabilizing any family issues. Clients then move on to the second phase, which is nine months in length and housed at a separate location, giving the women the opportunity to focus on recovery without the distractions of the city. Classes in inner healing, relapse prevention, life-skills, coping skills, work-therapy opportunities, educational opportunities to upgrade basic skills, as well as group and individual counseling are offered. Phase three includes three opportunities for the women. Those who exhibit leadership qualities and desire to work in recovery ministry or a related field may enter a one-year Servant Leadership Training (SLT) experience where they are offered an additional year in Christian recovery/counseling training. SLT participants assist other women who are just entering the initial portion of the Higher Ground program, lead support groups and receive highly academic training in both secular counseling methodology and biblical counseling. A second opportunity is offered to those who have completed the second phase of the program called Career Development, which includes educational or technical training through a local educational institution. These ladies also attend training classes at the Center, assist other women who are just entering the Higher Ground Program and assist with voluntary work assignments at the Center. The third opportunity for the third phase is the Job Placement and Retention Program, which allows the women to live at the center for an additional 12 months while they get established financially. This program is designed for program graduates who must seek immediate employment due to debt obligations and is not a candidate for SLT or Career Development. During her 12 month stay, she must complete work assignments at the Center and be involved in discipleship training classes.
